Something I'm pretty unclear on is if this whole "Saiyuki" and "Son-son" monkey-man thing comes from a single commercial series of some kind in Japan, or from folklore.

Anyway, here you control the monkey man as he goes around smacking ungainly looking monsters in big, flat, ugly levels. You have to wander around and find the right helpful people or bosses to get keys or rescue people to get to the next stage. That sounds kind of interesting but actually it isn't. The monkey man has some pretty effects and nice animation on his few moves, but after five or so minutes of bounding around the pointlessly huge and barren area, knocking grape jelly out of the same extremely stupid monsters over and over, you will have had enough.
