I guess something with a competitive goal (ie. you can win, or you can lose and try again). Oh sure, I dig non-games a lot in the beginning but after awhile I just burn out on them.

What about a game with a competitive goal and even scoring based on that competition, but no ultimate winning or losing? A game that just goes on for as long as you want and you judge whether you feel like you're winning or losing based on how well you're meeting your own self-imposed standards? Would that be a game or non-game?

Total non-game, unless of course you're comparing your score against others. I usually classify score based games as Challenge games, where the idea is to achieve a goal then to try and beat it. For instance playing golf vs someone is a game but playing golf on your own is just practice. I'm sticking by the win-lose situation.

Well, the score can be compared to someone else's score (or to previous scores of your own) if you want to, of course. Still non-game? How about a situation (I almost said "game") where you can only lose? There's no winning, the best you can hope for is to survive for longer before inevitably losing. Game or non-game?

So then, winning is optional but there has to be a "game over" in order for it to be a game, is that the deal? Good, that means Touchdown! The Alien Attack counts as a game (assuming you're willing to play continuously for seven years to get the game over screen). I was worried there for a minute.
