I think adults would probably would touch each other a lot more if there weren't social barriers against it. Animals have an instinct towards physical contact that goes much deeper than modern society's concept of "personal space," so we are constantly worrying away at the edges of those barriers whenever we can. I don't see what the objection is to having someone touch your baby. What exactly is it that you're afraid of, Mark? "I don't know who the fuck you are?" What does that mean? Do you think the person is going to like steal your baby and run away with it if they're able to get close enough to touch or something?

Yeah, I don't think I'm real touchy with people's babies, either, but maybe I should be. Not so much for myself, but for tha babiez. Meeting and interacting with (which basically mean touching given a baby's world of perception) a lot of people seems like it would help a baby develop a better understanding of self, society and the inter-relation of the two as it grows. There is a connection to allergies and SUVs here.

I think that it's just rude. I don't go touching random people. Even outside of social norms, babies are not equipped to handle bacteria and pathogens like the rest of us, and you can't tell me that everyone has the same standard for "clean".
