Just went to the Gamestop Dragon Quest IX event. Pretty cool to meet some other DQ freaks. They gave out stickers, a poster and a Slime t-shirt.
The first Gamestop I went to didn't get sent the special event map cartridge. ....creating 12 very dissapointed people! One couple drove 90 miles for the event. O_o. Luckily there was a 2nd gamestop doing the event about 15 minutes away.
Is anyone else playing the game besides me?

I am! I talked to a Gamestop dude and he told me only one store per region was getting the map event. I'm working all day today so unfortunately I wont be able to seek it out. Luckily, I was able to get some sort of exclusive map from the Nintendo booth at Comic Con and I picked up nearly 40 travelers for my Inn in tag mode so I'm happy with that. They were handing out Slime shirts as well and I got one of those but I'll probably never wear it because it's too large and has a big Comic Con logo on the sleeve and I'm the sort of picky asshole who gets really annoyed by that shit. I am extremely envious of your stickers, however. A little Slime or Dracky would most certainly class up my laptop. (twelvest) (16:43:35 07/31/10 EST)
Im about 7 hours in and pretty happy with it! I tried the first few DQ's a couple years back, and part 4 last year, on DS. Didnt like any of them! Im liking this because it has more than enough to keep me from realizing the INSANE linearity of these games. I love looking for sidequests and the fact theyre so neatly arranged. Searching for treasure! Also, I love how personal all the small stories are. They manage to captivate me far more than the "epic" Final Fantasies Square is throwing out the past 8 years. So yeah, I think ill be able to finish this one for a change. (n/t) (Mental) (12:57:02 08/01/10 EST)
I've nearly played fifty hours because it's really easy to play while the TV's on and stuff. I think I'm pretty close to the end, but I've been grinding (willingly, horrifingly) and doing tons of alchemy. The game is basically an MMO design in a handheld title, it's a pitch-perfect (and, I think, quite evil) design that wraps you entirely up into the treadmill it puts you on so you just want to keep running. When I beat it I'm going to put it down full stop I think because I've tried some of the treasure map dungeons and they're really badly designed/seem to lead to bosses that are really fucking difficult.
