I've been playing Persona 3 Portable lately. It's pretty good...I like the dating sim parts best, but it's not as straightforward as it is in Devil Survivor, which tells you everything explicitly, like what events will take time, or what will end your day, et cetera. You can also gather more than one of each persona type in devil survivor. But it's still good! I am enjoying! It is for PSP!

I like Persona 3 a lot, and I've actually been playing this, too. I've been working on "Out of Class Assignment" at my job and had a little extra money, so I picked up some Shin Megami Tensei games after getting into this particular game. I recently got Strange Journey and Devil Summoner (both DS) and think they're quite good. I've played more of Strange Journey and I'm surprised I like it so much since it's so "heavy" and serious. I haven't dug as much into Devil Summoner yet, but it seems cool. Persona 3 portable is a little stripped down from the console game, but it kind of speeds everything up in a way good for portable gaming. I'm playing as the girl, which is a new perspective for PSP. So, anyway, yeah! I agree with Brandon. (Jeurja) (10:34:09 08/07/10 EST)
I actually started playing the original Persona 3 on PS2 earlier this year and I really loved it. I loved how there was this rhythm to daily life, you'd go to school, talk to friends, maybe do some events... it was neat, like a simulator of an idealized Japanese teenage life (plus demon hunting in the middle of the night) unfortunately I had some other games I needed to play for work and it got lost in the shuffle. I need to go back to it. (n/t) (aerisdead) (11:55:10 08/07/10 EST)
With one post you made me really want this game. Persona 4 taught me that I quite like SMT, and when you started talking about the "daily rhythm" thing, it sealed the deal. I LOVE that. It's why I enjoyed SNES Harvest Moon so much. That's also the reason why I would still like to play the game Jeurja was a raving about a couple of years back. It was a japanese summer vacation simulator or something? I may have invented a new genre there. Anyway, it sounded amazing, starting off the day with a walk through the forest, catching some bugs. Boku no Natsuyasumi. (n/t) (Jeurja) (22:27:33 08/08/10 EST)
Thanks! What are your thoughts on it now, after some time has passed? (n/t) (Mental) (16:41:16 08/09/10 EST)
It is lovely. I guess you could probably get away with just playing ONE of the games, since they're all pretty similar. I have all 4 of them (I have the original for PSP, which is the game that got me hooked on the series, but it was a PSOne game long before). If I had to choose one... I'd probably go with the first one, simply because it seemed like the easiest to get through with little/no Japanese knowledge. They're all really good, though. The first one takes place in the countryside, the second by an ocean, the third on a farm, and the fourth in a small rural town. They were made for PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PSP, respectively, though you can now get 1, 2, and 4 (of course) on PSP. Boku 3 sports REALLY nice prerendered backdrops on PS3. I personally like prerendered graphics in games. I recently got Devil Summoner (hey!) due to my recent love affair with Shin Megami Tensei and that has some really nice prerendered backdrops. Anyway... I say give the first one a shot. If you like it, try out the second and so forth. They're all really good. I actually wrote an article about them for an issue of Game Time that never got published (our "lost" issue, if you will). Maybe I should spruce it up and put it on GameSetWatch...? But I was going to save it for whenever we actually send out another print issue... we were going to do a new one and throw in our "lost" issue as well. (n/t) (Jeurja) (20:28:07 08/09/10 EST)
Hey you should check out SMT: Strange Journey. It's pretty rad. I didn't think I'd like a game that serious, but it's totally the devil's Pokemon. It's kind of the polar (heh heh... cuz it takes place in Antarctica) extreme of Persona 3 & 4 design-wise, though. (n/t) (Jeurja) (01:05:52 08/11/10 EST)
