So apparently, there are 40+ e-reader levels for SMB3 GBA, if you include the 30+ from the Japanese-only cards. Did you guys already know this? That's like another half of a game.

I adored Super Mario Bros. 3 on the GBA, it really made me appreciate a game I hadn't played for a long time before that, and made me realize that Super Mario World really isn't all that.

Couldn't somebody just compile this into a ROM? The eReader was so dumb.

They have done that, yes (I think). I need to get a GBA flash cart.

I actually have one. Let me know if you find such a ROM, which would really probably just be a ROM of the JP version of the game that included a big save file. This wouldn't be such a problem except for the fact that, inexplicably, there is region lockout on eReader stuff.

weird, so why does it keep giving an internal server error when I try to post a comment about Harmony of Despair?

Probably some word in the post is on the secret FORBIDDEN list, so one of my little anti-spam routines just errors out the script. Suck that, spam bot!

Ok, so let me try... So what happened after I left? The time we beat Chapter 3 I was actually trying to head up to re-crank the axe (I think sternski was on his way to help?) but I fell off the platform which was dumb. And right now I've just been messing with S0ma, Alucard and Jonathan and clearly haven't levelled any of them up enough because I was doing like... 10% of the damage of everyone else with Alucard... But then, I only have three souls for him, and can't remember/work out how to get more (just killing baddies?)

it worked! I played some solo this afternoon and I really need to get Jonathan's damage up. He's at 12 attack right now, though his ball and chain attack thing is awesome.

Oh man, after you and Zero left we got in with this hella powerful Alucard from Taiwan who was doing about 200 dmg/sec. So we ended up on a speed run from chapter 1 through 5 in about the amount of time it took us all to beat chapter 3.

How is that even possible? I wish this game had a normal levelling up system only becuase often when I'm playing all I can think is... am I actually progressing?

It's pretty straight forward. Basically for S0ma you collect souls, each one affecting a different attribute up to 9x per. Johnathan and Shanoa gain experience on their sub weapon attacks (follow the green bars on the Offense menu). Charlotte's spells gain strength by re-learning them numerous times. I haven't played as Alucard yet but I know he benefits from finding additional copies of each spell.
