Star Citizen, a crowd funded space sim, has raised almost one hundred million dollars. How does this make you feel?

Maybe I'm just numb, but I couldn't possibly give a shit less. I do want to do a crowd funding thing where we raise however much money it takes to get a high profile power metal band, preferably Maiden, to cover the entire Genesis album Trespass. I'm pretty serious about this but haven't looked into it.

on the one hand it's like - why can't I get 70k to finish my stupid game over here. on the other, I totally understand why, and I know why people paid all that money in, and I'm not in any way making a game like that, so... whatever I guess!

Have you ever tried a crowd funding campaign? You have a lot of contacts in the industry and generally seem like a trustworthy person. Add a good sales pitch and im sure youre golden!

well, it's not really fun elaborating on a thing that (likely) he and I have read scads of articles about recently, but there's a lot of kickstarter blowback, it takes a huge herculean effort to get a campaign looking good, and my industry friends are all hurting for money as well, so it's nowhere near as "sure" a thing as it might've been a while back.

It makes me feel like pandering to the the predictable wishes of the Internet hordes and absconding with the cash.

"The internet hordes" this makes me laugh, every time someone says it. As if the people on the internet are different people than people in real life. Aside from that, youre describing supply and demand. Go do it!

Actually, what I was describing was a confidence game, but I do find it touching that you couldn't tell the difference between that and the fundamental principle of capitalism.

I have put about $300 into Star Citizen purchases. I was originally super-hyped about the game because of my childhood fascination with Chris Robert's Wing Commander franchise. Nowadays, I don't play videogames at all anymore so I don't even really think about it. I will try it out when it comes out however. I bought one of the biggest fuel/cargo ships (Star Farer) in the game that was available with lifetime insurance for $150 or so. I planned to be an intergalactic trucker or Han Solo in my mind. I need to find a crew as well.
