I'm sure the prices were insane for the time, but there's always rich people who are willing to buy things like this. The discs I had were 7" and white (or kind of cream colored, but maybe originally white). They were made out of fiberglass or something with an acetate surface layer as far as I could tell. I later gave all the blank ones to a friend who had found a recorder at a thrift store, though it wasn't working. I did keep a couple that had been recorded onto (nothing interesting, they were just personal letters or memos and had been recorded in the late 1950s). I don't know what ever happened to the ones I kept, I don't think I have them anymore, but they were [a lot like this if not identical](https://www.ebay.com/itm/Wilcox-Gay-Record-Disc-Hank-Snow-Written-on-Label/353413096868).
