I guess I don't have the real answer to that, but my feeling was aruze made the decision to sell it all off. but also: heck if I know what really happened! so maybe I shouldn't be speculating about it.

Follow Ups:

The new packaging had zero SNK branding on it at all from what I remember. If they did re-distribute the games into those packs then that's a strange decision. I'd assume if they wanted to move the stuff they could have just sent out rebates to the stores (EB basically) to lower the price by %80 and then everyone could have KEPT THEIR FUCKING BOXES. IIRC, some of those games were Euro versions...so the redistribution was not a US only thing. Pocket Game Arcade or something like that? WTF were they called? I wish I had bought 10.

yeah, it was weird stuff! I also wish I'd bought 10. I wonder where they junked all the boxes, or if they just hadn't printed them up yet? I think folks got euro fahselei in those things, too.

Actually....yes EU Faselei was in there but so was the US version which never got released any other way and AFAIK nobody has ever seen a box for. I’m pretty sure all those common games had boxes though and they were thrown out. It would be a lot of spare copies of a lot of different games, two regions, two different years of releases. I just had an idea...since we don’t have the numbers...what if the NGP is what lost all of SNK’s money? And the new owners simply got rid of it as fast as possible? That would explain their wasteful haste.
