The Old Games You Actually Play: If you’re like me you have a lot of old game systems and you pull them out every once in a while for a day or a few months or whatever. I’ve noticed when I do this that certain games typically get the most play. This isn’t because they are necessarily the best games for the system but what I actually play. I don’t own Garou: Mark of the Wolves so I never play that on my MVS no matter now good it is and I just because I want to play some GBA doesn’t necessarily mean I want to beat Mother 3 again.
I’ve been playing PS Vita again lately and I’ve noticed once again that I’m spending the most time with Hot Shots Golf. Most of my Vita games are text heavy J strategy stuff that I’ve cleared at least once already. They aren’t super fun for spontaneous gaming. Most of my other games were super mainstream stuff bought on clearance like Ridge Racer or Dead or Alive that I don’t really like so I guess Hot Shots, despite it’s shitty art style, does the trick since it does play very well.
What are the games you usually play when you haul out the Sega CD or the Wonderswan or whatever?
Getting the PCE stuff out usually means a trip through Dracula X or Y’sI&II…

Follow Ups:
Are you me? I JUST pulled out my Vita a week ago and started playing a couple games. First up? Hot Shots World Invitational. It's 100% my go-to when I pull out the Vita. After a bit of that, I decided to go through my collection and pick one of my untouched dungeon crawlers. I landed on Dungeon Travelers 2. The biggest surprise about the game so far is the writing... just because it's actually made me laugh out loud a few times already. It's 4th-wall-breaking stuff, mostly making fun of all the typical dungeon crawler tropes. But it also references a lot of anime tropes too, and I dunno... it's just tickling me in the right ways at the moment. I just was expecting a grindy dungeon romp, which is definitely there, but now I can also actually pay attention to the dialogue. Anyway, the Vita is maybe my 2nd favorite handheld behind the Gameboy SP. I had enough forethought to bulk up on cheap games for it when it was near death so I've got lots of 'new' stuff to try for years, but just like you, I'll still always return to Hot Shots Golf. I think I'm going to show the wife Katamari on it too... she's a non-gamer but I told her the premise of it, and she instantly wanted to play. (n/t) (Bean) (19:59:38 09/26/25 EST)
The Vita was the last console I actually enjoyed buying physical games for. I love the compact boxes the games come in. Easy to store and they look rather videogame-y as well. But when I play the Vita it's mostly downloaded games, simply because it's more convenient than swapping out games.
More on topic, when I hook up the old SNES, it's classics like Mario World that get played, but for whatever reason I always give Actraiser 2 and Super Valis a go. (n/t) (Tekcop Namkcor) (18:18:43 10/04/25 EST)
I'm about to play the anette no futatabi rerelease, but more recently I played hi-leg fantasy on the pc engine. pretty ridiculous even from a mechanics perspective. You basically gotta max your level to beat the final boss so I might be done there. but more regularly, final zone II or last alert. (n/t) (exodus) (14:59:29 10/17/25 EST)
I have been playing some TG-16 stuff like Soldier Blade, Bonk's Revenge, and Devil's Crush. (n/t) (Jeurja) (14:07:37 11/03/25 EST)
